Some things learned from this and previous detoxes:
If you drink coffee, tea, or soda, begin weaning yourself off of them several weeks before you start the detox. This way you won’t have the caffeine withdrawal migraine to deal with right when over the counter drugs such as aspirin must be avoided at all costs.
Start increasing your daily intake of water. It is so hard to go from 3 glasses a day to 10 glasses a day.
Brown rice flour can be used in place of regular flour to make rouxs and to thicken sauces, if you are unsure of the whole cornstarch thing. Publix carries Bob’s Red Mill brown rice flour in their Greenwise section of natural groceries.
It is lovely to detox in the spring, when fresh strawberries are abundant and cheap!
Here is today’s menu:
This morning I made a fruit salad out of 2 clementines, 1 apple, 1 c strawberries, 1 banana, and red grapes, and a splash of freshly squeezed orange juice. You can use whatever you have on hand as long as you include 2 fiber rich choices and your citrus. Mine made 6 or 8 cups of fruit salad, and I must eat it all by day’s end!
Check off 2 of 2 fiber rich and daily citrus.
breakfast: oatmeal, just like yesterday, but omit the apple.
snack: fruit salad.
lunch: cream of aspargus soup; cook the veggies with coconut oil instead of butter. Enjoy with cheese and crackers, and more fruit salad.
Gluten- free unrefined carbohydrate crackers exist at Sam’s Club. They are Crunchmaster brand Multi- Grain Crackers in a gold box, and they say prominently on the front: “certified gluten- free”. I make almost everything from scratch on a detox, but I have not gotten brave enough to tackle crackers yet.
check off daily liver healing and daily omega 3 rich fat.
snack: the rest of the fruit salad, if any is left, and 4 deviled egg halves, made with homemade mayonnaise.
check off daily sulfer rich.
dinner: Sabbath dinner tonight so it is a feast! 8 oz BBQ chicken on the grill, cornbread made with brown rice flour instead of wheat flour; add xanthan gum (see recipe); Emeril’s southern greens made with turkey kielbasa instead of whatever pork sausage Emeril uses; roasted broccoli, and creme brulee, made sugar- free, for dessert.
check off daily protein, daily crucifer, and daily dark leafy greens.
I am having one bite of matzo cracker and one swallow of red wine for communion tonight. Normally we would not have any gluten or alcohol on a detox, but we always have communion after our Sabbath dinner … so I am compromising.
