Vacation Sunday, breakfast on Navarre Beach. We started on the mainland. The bridge goes across the intercoastal waterway onto Navarre Beach where the vacation condo high rises are. By the way, there is a kids’ floaty waterpark out on the intercoastal waterway. After breakfast we drove from Navarre Beach, through the Gulf Islands National Seashore Preserve, to Pensacola Beach. There are dozens of different beaches here, all soft white sand like Siesta.
After exploring the beaches, we went back into Pensacola proper, to the downtown historic district. I did not realize that since the Spanish founded Pensacola in 1559, it makes Pensacola the oldest city in the United States. St. Augustine was founded a few years later in 1565. Pensacola was destroyed by a hurricane later and then rebuilt, which is why the encyclopedias say that St. Augustine is the oldest continuously inhabited city. The historic district is BEAUTIFUL. I did not get proper pictures as it was raining when we got there. Next trip …
Oh, and then we had supper at McGuire’s Pub. The food was better than Raglan Road in Disney. All in all it was a beautiful day!
