Rev 14:5-16:21 chiastic structure: The series of seven bowls of wrath
1a) Rev 14:5-15:4, The Son of Man reaps the harvest of the earth/ an angel reaps the grapes of the wrath of God;
1a) Rev 14:5-7, 1st angel’s proclamation of the everlasting gospel to every nation/ Fear God + give Him glory, for the hour of His judgment has come, and worship Him;
1b) Rev 14:8-13, 2nd angel’s proclamation: Babylon is fallen/ 3rd angel’s proclamation: the wine of the wrath of God;
central axis) Rev 14:14-19a, The Son of Man reaps the harvest of the earth/ an angel reaps the grapes of the wrath of God;
2b) Rev 14:19b-15:3a, The great winepress of the wrath of God/ 7 angels with 7 last plagues/ those who overcame sing the song of Moses + the Lamb;
2a) Rev 15:3b-4, Who shall not fear You, O Lord + glorify Your name/ all nations shall worship before You + Your judgments have been manifested;
1b) Rev 15:1-16:1, Seven angels with seven last plagues, for in them the wrath of God is finished;
1a) Rev 15:1, Another sign in the sky: 7 angels having the 7 last plagues, for in them God’s wrath is finished;
1b) Rev 15:2a, I saw something like a sea of glass mixed with fire;
central axis) Rev 15:2b, And those who overcame the beast, his image, the number of his name;
2b) Rev 15:2c-4, Standing on the sea of glass/ They sang the song of Moses + the Lamb;
2a) Rev 15:5-16:1, The 7 angels with the 7 plagues were given 7 golden bowls full of the wrath of God;
1a) Rev 15:5-6, After this, the temple in heaven was opened/ 7 angels who had the 7 plagues came out;
1b) Rev 15:7a, One of the four living creatures;
central axis) Rev 15:7b, Gave to the 7 angels 7 golden bowls full of the wrath of God;
2b) Rev 15:7c, Who lives forever and ever;
2a) Rev 15:8-16:1 The temple was filled with the glory of God/ No one could enter it until the 7 plagues would be finished /Loud voice from the temple to the 7 angels: Pour out the 7 bowls of the wrath of God on the earth!
1c) Rev 16:1-12, The first six bowls poured out;
1d) Rev 16:13-14, The third interval period: three frog spirits gather the kings to the battle;
central axis) Rev 16:15, “Behold, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked and they see his shame;”
2d) Rev 16:16, And they gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew, Armageddon;
2c) Rev 16:17a, The seventh poured out his bowl into the air;
2b) Rev 16:17b, A loud voice came out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, “It is done!”
2a) Rev 16:18-21, Babylon the great remembered before God, to give her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of His wrath;
1a) Rev 16:18, Lightnings, sounds, thunders, a great earthquake, such as has never been;
1b) Rev 16:19a, The great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell.
central axis) Rev 16:19b, Babylon the great was remembered in the sight of God, to give to her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of His wrath;
2b) Rev 16:20, Every island fled away, and the mountains were not found.
2a) Rev 16:21, Great hailstones came down/ People blasphemed God because of the exceedingly severe hail.
